Her photos are SUPERSONIC

For some teenagers, photography is for capturing memories to last a lifetime. For others, photos are for updating your default picture on MySpace and Facebook. For Kelsey Shearer, a senior at Spring Grove Area Senior High School, it is so much more.

"It all started when I was in 10th grade," she said. "That's when I got my first digital camera and got really interested."

Shearer, 18, began taking lots of pictures, gathering inspiration from people around her. "I saw cool pictures other people took," she said. "And I thought 'I want to do that.'"

Before long, she ditched her old digital camera and made an (expensive) investment on a Nikon D40 DSLR. It's a good camera for those who are just starting out. It's also good enough for professionals, she said. Her Nikon comes with a tripod and an assortment of lenses, including wide-angle and macro.

Shearer even started her own photography business, Supersonic Photography. (myspace.com/supersonic photos). The name originates from the song "Supersonic" by favorite band, Family Force 5.

To date, she has shot engagement and senior portraits, as well as "some random stuff" of her friends, herself, and Mother Nature.

As senior year progresses, she will look to further he education with online classes. She has been looking into New York Institute of Photography (NYIP.com). Whatever school or program she chooses and wherever her life might lead her, she knows photography will be party of it.

"I really want to be a photographer," she said. "It's my passion."

This is Kelsey being crazy.

....being beautiful :)

She look this of me :)

And this too (is me) :)

"Homesick:" Beautifully Crafted, Brutally Epic

A Day To Remember accomplished something with their sophomore album "Homesick." Something that musicians strive for each and every day, with each and every song, on each and every album.

"The Downfall of us all" starts off the album with something that ADTR fans are used to. After only five seconds of "fun gang vocals," they throw in a riff of prominent bass, turning up the energy and intensity, giving the listener a little taste of what's to come; a little taste of what ADTR does best.

The fifth track, "Mr. Highway's Thinking About The End," is no doubt one of the hardest songs on "Homesick." Right from the beginning, its intensity grows as the music gets more strident and Jeremy McKinnon, ADTR's vocalist, begins to sing. Actually, when he begins to scream.

However, "Homesick" is not just another metal core album.

On a lighter note, the last track "If it Means a Lot to You" shows how versatile ADTR truly is. That there is a softer side to ADTR; and this side is just as lovable as the harder side. McKinnon's voice is complimented a female voice; that of Sierra Kusterbeck from VersaEmerge. The two-part harmony soothes and make you want to pull your significant other close.

Overall, there is not one song on "Homesick" that you will want to skip. Each has a perfect blend of brutality and serenity to make you want more. Each song adds to the previous, and when the album gets to the last track, you will want to make sure it's on repeat.

To put it simply:
 Do not steal it.
  Do not burn it.
   Do not download it.
Get out there and buy it.
      It's worth every penny!

Meeting Sonny Moore...

January 16:
Anxious, as defined by Webster's Dictionary, is "troubled in mind or worried at some uncertain matter or event."
For the past month, I have been thinking I am "anxious."
However:
...troubled?
...worried?
...uncertain?
These adjectives do not describe how I feel at all! Maybe the word "eager" is more appropriate: "enthusiastic interest," "great desire." That's more like it.
Honestly, I have been eagerly waiting to see Sonny Moore, ex-From First to Last front man and current solo artist, in the flesh for more than four long years.
In two days, I will be blessed with the opportunity. I am attending his show in Baltimore.

(this is Sonny. I made the picture all cool looking.)

January 18:
Antoine de Saint-Exupery once said, "A goal without a plan is just a dream." In an hour and 35 minutes, my dream will turn into a goal. My plan will be in action. I will see...I will meet Sonny Moore.
The anxiety is setting in; my mind races.
"What if something goes wrong? What if he falls a little - a lot short - of my expectations? What if he turns out to be a complete jerk?"
My worst fear: I could meet him and just faint in dismay. I could just drop over dead from the fact that it's actually him.
OK. That was a little dramatic, but four years of waiting, the day is finally here!

January 19:
The show last night was two words: absolutely amazing! I saw Sonny for the first time when I was waiting outside the doors. He just walked right past me and all I could do was stare at him. I was in sheer astonishment.
When InnerPartySystem, the headliner, played, I casually looked around and saw Sonny standing against the wall!
This was my chance! My friends and I walked over. I made sure to tell him, "Happy belated birthday," and he graciously thanked me. He gave me a hug, posed for a couple pictures, conversed and gave me an autograph.
He was so kind, appreciative and just so cute!
Last night I learned two things: My life is now fulfilled and I truly am in love with Sonny Moore.

Punk Rock & Personality

Fans of rock music and music videos should make sure to catch "Steven's Untitled Rock Show," or "SURS" led by spunky VJ Steven Smith weekdays on the Fuse network.

Throughout the 2 p.m. hour, regular guy Steven Smith (the host) introduces the latest videos on the music scene, as well as classics and up-and-comers. He keeps you up on the news and interviews a variety of bands.

On past shows, he has interviewed current favorites, including Paramore, Angels and Airwaves, and Katy Perry. Plus, he has chatted with legends, like Iggy Pop and NOFX.

Smith's personality and true love for the music adds to the show's appeal. He's a real people person, and it shows in his interviews. One could say it's more than just a day job for him, especially when he talks to those bands he's gotten to know on more than a professional level.

The show's target audience is anyone who is a music lover. Its fans are as diverse as the bands played on it.

Hawthorne Redefined

Bands these days change up their sound often. They want to show listeners they are more than just the same old band putting out the same old album.
Some might say Hawthorne Heights redefined itself with its lastest album, "Fragile Future." This change, however, was not because it was tired of its sound or wanted to change the way people saw the band.
In fact, it was because the guitarist and screamer, Casey Calvert, died in November.

Fans can breathe a sigh of relief to know that the bands made it through the tragedy, as well as legal trouble with its record label.
With each track, you notice that they all have similar themes: hurt, pain, and trying to move on.
The song "Four Become One" is about Calvert's death and reflects on the kind of person he was: "All the fun we had, you made us laugh, we only cried but once. You made us laugh, in photographs on display for everyone..."
The album's title, "Fragile Future," also refers to Calvert and the day he died.
Listening to the album, you can hear that even though the band has made it through some troubles, it is still battling to this day. It's obvious the band is not completely healed. It just has to strive forward and take it day to day, like it has been doing for almost a year.
Luckily, "Fragile Future" was worth the wait!

(i write for a local paper every first tuesday of the month so i will post my stories in here :) )

A poem I wrote..."Eulogy"

"Eulogy"

You might be dead to me,
but the ghost of you still haunts me.
You got buried beneath all your lies,
didn't even get to say my goodbyes.

It's been such a long time, but
your face is still imprinted in my mind.
we are still connected by
the blood running through our veins.

It is so hard to say,
I hate what you became.
(what happened to who you were)

Why couldn't you see,
you not only hurt them,
... but you hurt me!
